The scaffolding around @mccarrenparkhouse came down a few days ago, revealing a brick building with a glass-enclosed structure and outdoor seating. According to their website, they will be serving coffee, sandwiches, ice cream, and drinks. The building was redesigned to meet the needs of the general public, café patrons, and Parks staff in a seamless space that encourages circulation and access for all. In addition to housing the café, the park house also has dedicated space for NYC Parks’ North Brooklyn Maintenance & Operation staff and its Parks Enforcement Patrol staff.

One of North Brooklyn’s busiest parks is getting its first concession stand. The McCarren Park House — located on the Greenpoint side of McCarren Park — is opening on June 17 with three vendors and a bar, just in time for summer. Barnsdall Art Park has accessible parking spaces on top of the hill in the Hollyhock House motor court, located between the Visitor Center (former garage) and the house. There are additional accessible parking spaces located on the Upper Road. A park equally valued and cherished in Greenpoint and Williamsburg, McCarren Park is the site of endless games of kickball, soccer, baseball, bocce, handball, basketball, football, and tennis, not to mention running meets and playground antics.

PARKINGHollyhock House is located at the top of the hill in Barnsdall Art Park. Parking is free but limited and can be found in Barnsdall Park at the top and the bottom of the hill. Visitors may park along the perimeter road that loops that upper part of the park. Additionally, parking is located directly to the left from the main park entrance on Hollywood Boulevard.

In March, seven months before MacArthur Park was closed, more than 180 people were detained or arrested in Echo Park during a protest over its closure, and several demonstrators were injured by police. The timing of that closure had been kept secret until the last minute; in MacArthur Park, the date of the closure was announced weeks in advance. Nearly 130 people living in the park had been put in hotel and motel rooms through Project Roomkey by Oct. 15, the day of the park’s closure, according to Cedillo’s office. Cyclists can plan their route using LADOT Dash or Metro bike maps. Bicycle racks are located near the accessible parking spaces across from the Hollyhock House driveway. Blank Street provides coffee; Club Club sells light food; Oddfellows serves up ice cream; and Park Bar is a full service bar. McCarren Parkhouse will also offer seasonal and holiday activities, including things like yoga and pilates, softball, soccer, and other park-friendly programming.
